About ICGCED 2024

Global citizenship education (GCED) is an essential element of twenty-first-century teaching and learning. GCED provides a philosophical lens to education. As such, people need time and opportunity to comprehend and embrace the idea before they can really support it. Each person will respond to GCED with unique attitudes and beliefs, and each person will use it differently. For some, GCED signifies an attitude of cosmopolitan purpose, placing humanity ahead of self. For others, GCED embodies a fractured sense of both learner and educator identity. For a third group, GCED is a critical interrogation of pervasive norms. How everyone practises GCED, despite globalised rhetoric, poses challenges that will not single out anyone.

In this light, GCC-USM organises this conference of The 2nd GCC International Conference on Global Citizenship Education (ICGCED 2024) to bring together academics and school practitioners in a platform for discussion and exchange of knowledge in the area of GCED. It is hoped that through rigorous sessions, participants will be able to develop practical concepts for adopting GCED for their respective organisations. This conference also aims to reconcile the individual learner and the learning community without losing their strengths.

This international conference focuses on increasing awareness and understanding of current GCED issues and research in the Malaysian and Asian settings. ICGED 2024, in addition, provides the prospect for networking opportunities, allowing participants to meet and interact with peers, mentors, and potential collaborators from the private and public sectors across the international community.
